Travis Jeffords is quickly establishing himself as an innovative composer with well-crafted, social-justice minded music. Recent accolades include winner of 2009 Austin Civic Orchestra Composition Competition and finalist of the 2009 Iron Composer Competition.
His musical stylings draw heavily from his indie and experimental rock background; Travis’ master’s thesis, Shot in the Dark, was a five-movement high-energy exploration of personal classified ads taken from an Austin weekly newspaper and set for a large new music ensemble.
Travis’ frequent cross-disciplinary artistic collaborations with photographers, playwrights, dance choreographers, and touring arts groups have earned multiple grants and received performances in concert halls, gallery spaces, theaters, and town squares throughout the United States.
Travis holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Southwesern University in Georgetown, Texas. Travis’ composition teachers include Dan Welcher, Yevginey Sharlat, and Jason Hoogerhyde, and he has studied cello under Bion Tsang and Hai Zheng-Olefsky.
